Our birthday month continues and we’re having more fun than ever! We finished up our Fall Training Series last week and as always we have met even more awesome people from Indy-area nonprofits and organizations. We’re also in the process of working with a program in Lebanon, which means that our mission and vision are expanding out of the city and into the amazing communities that make up Central Indiana.
As part of our birthday series, we’ve been sharing with you our new mission, vision, and values. Today I’m focusing on Value #2: We believe that every person has the right and the responsibility to make a positive impact.
A wise person once said, “With great privilege comes great responsibility.” We are all privileged to live in a democracy. However, part of living in a democratic society is participating in activities that build that democracy and enhance our communities. Because we live where we do, we have the ability to make a positive impact. However, it’s up to us to take that right one step further. We must all act upon it. We must embrace our responsibility to make our communities better. Last week Kristin blogged about civic participation and changing our definition of what it means to “get involved.” There are many different options out there to help make a positive impact, from lifestyle choices to volunteering, donating money, or working at a nonprofit. Take a look at her blog here for some creative ideas.
At Catalyst, we advocate for every person getting involved in a way that’s meaningful to them. Finding something that fits your unique personality, interests, and skills helps to make the responsibility to make impact a little easier. We encourage everyone to embrace their right and responsibility to do something (anything!) to make our community a better place to live.
