Happy Birthday to Us!

By: Kristin Clements-Effner, MSW Training Coordinator/Cofounder

This Sunday marks our 2 year birthday at Catalyst and wow has it been a whirlwind.  We went from coming up with an idea over coffee to getting our nonprofit status, launching a website, facilitating numerous trainings, and the list goes on.  It has been a busy couple of years figuring out exactly where are niche is in the world of nonprofits that call Indianapolis home.  We have had the privilege to work with several dynamic nonprofits, such as Central Indiana Association of Volunteer Administrators (CIAVA), Children’s Bureau, Jobs for America’s Graduates, Girls Scouts of Central Indiana, CICOA, just to name a few.

We have worked with several hundred young people to learn how they can change their community and assisted them in creating a YouTube video campaign, recycling program, and school based community service project.  We have worked with adults in understanding the young people of today and how to be effective mentors and leaders.  We have worked with nonprofits to create engaged workplaces to focus on meeting their mission, which led to the beginning development of a staff leadership training program and more intergenerational discussions on workplace challenges.  We have assisted organizations in thinking outside the box when it comes to recruiting volunteers to ensure their organization provides meaningful opportunities for all ages to make a difference.

Our main focus has been to take Indianapolis nonprofits to the next level and ensure there are a multitude of engagement opportunities with in organizations to make the city a thriving community.  Over the next month, we will be highlighting our revamped vision/mission and organizational values to give you a snapshot of Catalyst from the inside.  These are not merely statements that we put on promotional materials, but are the guiding focus of all of our work.  The past two years have been successful foundational years and we are excited about what the future holds for Catalyst.  Stay tuned over the next several weeks to learn about what makes Catalyst so unique and how you can become a part of the excitement.
